Types of Grants
OGSEF has established four general types of grants, although we will evaluate additional types of grants on case-by-case basis.
Traditional Grant (or Classic Grant)
The Traditional Grant provides funding for a pilot initiative to differentiate learning in one of the following areas: Arts & Language, STEM, or a focus on the whole child. The grant will focus as a "test" or "pilot" to learn about the potential application of the idea more broadly in the grade or school. There is no set funding limit on a traditional grant and grants are considered on a rolling basis at Foundation Board Meetings. It is preferred that grant requests are received at a meeting for discussion and voted on at the following meeting.
Multi-Year Grant
Sometimes grant opportunities are large in scope and may require more than one year of results to determine how a concept can be integrated into the curriculum in the long term. Additionally, when grant requests greater than $10,000, the Foundation may work with the teacher applicant to spread the pilot over more than one year to responsibly manage Foundation finances. There is no set funding floor or limit on a Multi-Year Grant and grants are considered on a rolling basis at Foundation Board Meetings. It is preferred that grant requests are received at a meeting for discussion and voted on at the following meeting.
Mini-Grants
Mini-grants provide an opportunity for teachers to have a shortened application process that are smaller in nature. The Foundation will honor (20) mini-grants during the 2023-2024 school year in the amount of $250. Mini-grants will be awarded in the areas of STEM, Arts, SEL, Physical Activity, and Innovation.
Teacher Professional Development Grant
The Foundation recognizes "bringing the outside in" is one of the best ways to be innovative and differentiate curriculum. Teacher development outside the established district support is a key avenue to "spark" new ideas. Foundation grants in support of teacher development must be outside of current district availability and align with the curriculum strategy. Professional development grants will be considered two times a fiscal year at the October and May board meetings.
